A transmission shop off the main stretch in Thousand Oaks called me about a 2012 Chrysler 200 that had already been partially worked on by another locksmith. The car was in for unrelated service, and the owner had asked the other tech to handle a key replacement while it was there. Somewhere in the middle of the programming sequence, the battery voltage dropped. The immobilizer module caught the interruption mid-handshake and went into a fault state. The new remote head key paired on the first clean attempt. I tested all six buttons, confirmed the engine started and held without the security light staying on, and walked the owner through what the previous tech had done wrong. It was not a mysterious failure. It was a skipped step.
Total time was closer to an hour and a half than a normal job. The owner had already been quoted a flatbed plus a multi-day dealer wait. Coming out to Thousand Oaks and finishing it in the parking lot was a fraction of that, and he drove home the same afternoon.
