Over near the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, a woman flagged me down in the parking structure. Not my scheduled job, but she was close to calling a tow truck for her 2017 Chrysler 200.
The dash kept cycling "Key Fob Not Detected" every time she hit the start button. She had already replaced the CR2032 twice that week thinking the battery was the problem. Two fresh batteries, same result.
I popped the fob open on the hood of my van. The M3N-40821302 looked fine inside, contacts clean, battery seated right. So I placed her fob in the center console backup slot and hit the brake and start button. Nothing. That told me the fob's passive signal was not reaching the WCM receiver at all.
I connected my IM608 to the OBD port, pulled into the RF hub module, and ran a key read. The system showed zero keys registered. Somewhere along the way, her key data had dropped out of memory. It happens on these second-gen 200s more than people realize, especially after a battery disconnect or a low-voltage event.
Re-registered her original fob, programmed the spare she had in her purse, and tested every button from 30 feet. Push-button start, door locks, trunk, remote start. Three clean start cycles in a row.
She never needed a new key. Just someone who could read the module and figure out what actually went wrong.
