2011 Chrysler 200 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was out near the Botanic Garden Area of Thousand Oaks on a Tuesday morning, the kind where it's already warm before nine and you can smell the sage on the hillsides. A guy called from a parking lot off Moorpark Road, half apologetic, half frustrated. His 2011 Chrysler 200 key had snapped in the door lock. Not a gradual failure. Just gone, clean break, half the blade inside the cylinder and the other half in his hand.
He had tried to dig it out himself with a pocket knife. That made my job a little more interesting.
I got there and used a Lishi pick to work around what he had shifted around inside the cylinder. It took a few extra minutes because the broken piece had migrated slightly, but the lock wafers were intact. Once I had the broken piece out and the lock decoded, I cut a fresh key blade from the decoded readings and matched it to the remote head key housing with the right transponder inside.
That last part matters on the 200. It is not just a blade job. The transponder lives inside the key head, and the immobilizer has to recognize the new unit before the car will run. I ran the programming through the OBD port, the immobilizer accepted the new key, and I tested it through several start cycles to make sure it held.
From the time I pulled up to the time I left, we were under an hour. He mentioned the dealer wanted him to tow the car in and come back the next day. That part I just nodded at. I had already handed him two working keys and was packing up my bag.
