When a 2005 Honda S2000 key is done wrong, it doesn't just "kind of work." It fails. The engine might crank but not start. The remote might lock but not unlock. Or the key programs initially but the immobilizer rejects it after a drive cycle and you're stranded again.
A warehouse stocker at the big box store lot in Carpinteria had a key made by another locksmith for his S2000 that stopped working after about eight days. His fob also had a weak battery contributing to the intermittent detection issues. I swapped that too so he wasn't chasing two problems at once.
The replacement I made has been working for months and cost him 115. Dealer would have charged 279. The difference between a key that works and a key that works for a week is the chip inside it.
