A family near Moonlight Beach lost their only key somewhere between the beach path and the parking area. They'd retraced the whole route twice and came up empty. The LHS was sitting there with tired kids and nothing to open it. They called me, and I told them I'd be there in about 30 minutes.
First step was getting in. I picked the door and used that to decode the wafer positions in the lock, then cut a fresh blade to match. Clean cut, first try.
From there I connected through the OBD port, pulled the security PIN from the immobilizer module, and ran the all-keys-lost sequence. That process clears any previously registered keys from the vehicle's memory and enrolls the new transponder key as the active one. The engine started on the first crank. I cut a second key on the spot and ran the same registration so they had a working spare.
The whole job was about 45 minutes, done in the lot. The alternative was a tow, an appointment days out, and a dealer invoice that would've made the beach trip a lot more expensive. They loaded the kids and drove home with two keys instead of zero.
The dealer comparison wasn't even really the point. The point was four tired kids and a car that needed to start.
