She was at a restaurant in Encinitas and her purse was gone. Someone grabbed it off the back of her chair. Car keys, house keys, wallet, phone. She borrowed the hostess's phone and called the police first, then her husband, then me.
Her 1998 Ford Contour was in the restaurant lot with zero keys. She drove home that night. Total was $117 for two new keys. The dealer estimated $284 plus a tow and a multi-day wait. The stolen key can still physically enter the lock but the immobilizer won't let the engine start. She had two fresh keys and the old one was dead to the car.
