2023 Ford Maverick
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2023 Ford Maverick Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was in The Bridges area of Rancho Santa Fe on a Wednesday afternoon when the call came in. A mom had just done school pickup and was standing next to her 2023 Maverick in the parking lot. Her only fob had gone through a full wash cycle the night before. She didn't realize it was in her jacket pocket until she pulled the jacket out of the dryer.

She had kids in the back seat, an appointment in under two hours, and the dealer had told her the earliest they could see her was Friday.

I got there, connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port, and walked through the key registration sequence. The Maverick's immobilizer requires the new fob to be learned through that process, there's no ignition-turn trick or button sequence that works on this system. It took about 20 minutes on the car once I was set up.

I told her to hang onto the washed fob, sealed in a dry bag for a few days, because sometimes the board recovers once moisture fully clears. But I told her not to depend on it.

She left that lot with a working key and made her next stop. The dealer and a three-day wait were someone else's problem.
