2019 Jaguar I-Pace Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy stuck in a trailhead parking lot near San Ysidro Village. He'd gone out for a few hours and came back with no key. Checked the trail, checked the ranger station, nothing. His I-Pace was sitting right there and he had no way in.
I told him I could be there that afternoon and he didn't sound convinced it was actually possible.
When I arrived, the first step was getting into the car without the fob. The I-Pace door handles are capacitive - they sit flush with the body and only extend when the car senses a valid key. With no fob present they don't pop out. So I used the emergency keyway on the driver door, which is behind a small cover on the handle assembly, and worked it open mechanically. Once inside, I connected my diagnostic equipment through the OBD port and got into the vehicle security system.
All-keys-lost on the I-Pace is not a flip-it-and-go job. The immobilizer is layered into the vehicle's electronic architecture in a way that requires proper security access and sequenced programming. I worked through the process on site, registered the new fob, and verified the system recognized it before I called it done.
He watched the whole thing from a few feet away, a little skeptical the whole time. Then the car started in the same lot he'd been stranded in for hours.
He saved a good chunk over what a dealer trip plus a flatbed to a service center would have cost him. But honestly the part that got him was that it happened right there in the parking lot, same afternoon he called.
