2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

It's a fair question and worth asking on any newer vehicle. The pattern with scam operations goes like this: low number on the phone, then the price changes once they see the car or realize the job needs secured gateway access. Some cut the blade, collect money for that, then tell you they can't do the programming and leave you with half a key. EZ Car Keyz has over 100,000 followers across YouTube and TikTok.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. Once the fob is enrolled and the blade is cut to your vehicle, every function gets tested before I hand anything over. Remote lock and unlock, proximity detection, push-to-start, and the emergency blade. All of it. Partial failures on these fobs are worth knowing about. A fob that took a hard drop can show up with remote buttons still working but proximity detection gone, so the vehicle won't recognize you're approaching and push-to-start won't respond.

Q: My Grand Wagoneer fob works sometimes and fails other times. Is that a dying battery or something worse?

Intermittent behavior on these fobs is usually one of two things: the battery is on its way out and voltage is dipping under load, or the pairing between the fob and the immobilizer has degraded. A fob that works fine in the morning and throws a key-not-detected warning by afternoon is a classic low-battery symptom. Swap the battery first. If a fresh battery doesn't fix the inconsistency, the fob may need to be re-enrolled.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2022 Grand Wagoneer. Can you still make a key with nothing to start with?

Yes. All-keys-lost on this vehicle is a job we handle, but it takes longer than a standard add-a-key. The immobilizer has to be cleared through the secured gateway before new keys can be enrolled, and that reset process has a timed security sequence built in. Plan for the job to run closer to an hour. The upside is that once it's done, any previously lost fobs are erased from the system and can't be used to start the vehicle.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He builds surfboards. The kind that end up under serious wave riders, shaped by hand in a working shop outside Rancho Santa Fe Village. His 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was his hauler, and when the smart key stopped communicating with the vehicle, the whole operation stalled with it.

He already knew it wasn't the battery. He'd swapped it, checked the contacts, and the fob still wouldn't talk to the car. The dash gave him a key-not-detected warning every time. He called the Jeep dealer. Thursday appointment, drop the vehicle, wait for a callback. That was three days out.

He wasn't losing three days of board deliveries over a pairing that had gone bad.

I met him in the shop lot around midday. The secured gateway on these vehicles means the diagnostic sequence has a mandatory security handshake before the system will accept any new key data. I ran through that, got access, and re-enrolled the fob. The whole OBD session from plug-in to confirmed engine start ran about 25 minutes. Most of that was the security access sequence running in the background while we stood there talking about fin setups.

By the time I handed the key back, he'd already loaded a board into the truck. He was out of the lot before I had my gear packed up.

The dealer comparison barely came up. He just needed it done that day, and it was.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Jeep vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is a California BSIS licensed locksmith company (LCO#6792), fully insured, and NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certified. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer has a secured gateway architecture that blocks standard OBD access until the right credentials and tooling are in place. Not every locksmith has invested in equipment that handles that layer, which is why you'll hear some shops say "dealer only" on newer Jeep work.
