2023 Jeep Wagoneer
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Do I really need to tow my Wagoneer to the dealer for a key replacement?

No. Dealers default to "tow it in" because that's their intake process, not because the work requires it. The 2023 Wagoneer's immobilizer is accessed through the OBD port, which I reach just as easily in your driveway as a dealer tech does in a service bay. I bring the programming equipment to the vehicle. The tow is the first thing you eliminate when you call a mobile locksmith instead.

Q: What do I need to show you to prove I own the vehicle?

A valid government-issued photo ID and proof of ownership, either your registration or your title. I verify the VIN from the door jamb sticker and the dashboard plate before any work begins. Same documentation a dealer would ask for, handled on site in a few minutes. If you're a renter or the vehicle is in a company name, bring whatever paperwork ties you to it.

Q: My 2023 Wagoneer fob works on some doors but not others. Is the key failing?

Probably not the fob. If the immobilizer still recognizes the key at the ignition and at least one door handle responds, the fob's transmitter is doing its job. Intermittent response on a single door handle points to that door's capacitive touch sensor or the wiring behind it, not the key itself. Wagoneer owners on forums have reported exactly this pattern, where one front door handle becomes inconsistent while everything else works fine.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it for me?

Yes, as long as the fob matches the factory FCC ID for your specific Wagoneer. Bring the fob and the vehicle and I can pair it on site. What I can't do is make a mismatched fob work, and that's the most common issue with online purchases. If the part number or FCC ID on what you bought doesn't align with what the vehicle expects, programming will fail regardless of the equipment used.

2023 Jeep Wagoneer Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a travel photographer who was staying at an Airbnb in the Grossmont Area. She had one key to her 2023 Wagoneer, and it had stopped being recognized by the vehicle.

The dash was showing a key-not-detected warning, the door handles weren't responding to touch, and she couldn't find the emergency blade slot the first time she looked. She was between assignments, had gear locked in the cargo area, and the nearest dealer told her to tow it in.

She called me instead.

When I got there, the first thing I did was confirm the fob battery. She'd already swapped it, but she'd used the wrong size. The Wagoneer takes a CR2450, and she had put in a CR2032, which physically fits in the housing but doesn't make solid enough contact to power the fob reliably. That was the whole problem. Correct battery, correct seating, clean contacts.

Then I walked through every function before I called it done. Touch unlock on both front doors. Tailgate release. Ignition recognition. Everything came back.

She didn't need a new key. She didn't need a tow. She needed the right battery and someone who showed up that night. The dealer option would have meant a flatbed, a day's wait, and a bill she didn't want to look at. What she paid me was a fraction of that.

Jeep Wagoneer Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I'm locked out with no spare key. Can you come to me?▼

Yes. I come to you, wherever you are in the Grossmont Area. All-keys-lost on a 2023 Wagoneer is a job I handle on site. I carry the diagnostic equipment to communicate with the vehicle's immobilizer through the OBD port, register the new fob, and cut the emergency blade to your vehicle, all without a tow and without a dealer appointment. Bring a valid photo ID and your registration. The VIN gets verified at the door jamb before any work starts.
