There is a self-storage facility on the Naval Base side of Coronado that sits next to a collection of things people love too much to sell and use too rarely to keep at home. Vintage iron, mostly. A guy there had four bays of classic Lincolns and one very modern problem.
His 2021 Corsair was parked at the end of the row. The fob had stopped being recognized. Not dead, just ignored. The dash was showing a key-not-detected warning and the engine would not start. First thing I did was open the fob and check the battery. CR2450, seated correctly, decent voltage. That ruled out the easy fix. So I connected through the OBD port, pulled up the security module, and ran the programming sequence. New fob registered, old fob address still in memory alongside it. Tested lock, unlock, remote start function, and confirmed the engine started without any warning on the dash.
The whole thing was done before he finished his coffee. He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a figure that made him wince, plus a weekday appointment he would have had to tow the car to.
The car does not know where the key was programmed. It just knows the fob is authorized now.
