The problem is either the fob's transmitter, the battery contact, or the receiver in the car.

Start with the battery. CR2025 cells in these fobs lose voltage gradually and the remote functions will fade out before the transponder stops working, so a car that starts but won't respond to the buttons is a classic low-battery symptom. Swap in a fresh CR2025 with the contact sitting flat and retest. If the buttons still don't work after that, the issue either moved to the fob's transmitter side or to the receiver in the car, and that's when I get involved.

The RX-8 cranks but immediately stalls and won't stay running. Could that be a key or immobilizer problem?
