2011 Mazda RX-8 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Ramona Highlands, the avocado rows go on longer than you'd expect. No cell signal for stretches, gravel access roads between trees, and no flatbed is navigating that comfortably.
A farm manager texted me a GPS pin from one of those roads. His 2011 Mazda RX-8 was sitting there, fob dead, and the manual door lock cylinder wasn't responding. A previous owner had disabled it somewhere along the line, so the emergency blade was useless for entry.
I loaded up for the RX-8 and drove out to that pin.
When I got there, the car was exactly where he said it would be, parked between two rows of trees with dust still settling around it. I decoded the lock mechanically, cut a replacement blade on site, and handled the smart key programming through the OBD port with my equipment. The two-key minimum the system requires meant I had to have both fobs enrolled before the car would cooperate. It took a little longer than a single-key add job, but we finished it on that gravel road without moving the car an inch.
He mentioned a dealer had given him a number and a timeline that started with "we'd need the car towed in first." That alone would have been a production from where we were standing.
The RX-8 started. He drove it out of those avocado rows under its own power.
