2008 Porsche Cayman Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Westwood on a Saturday has a certain energy. The garages in that part of Rancho Bernardo tend to be organized, clean, and full of things that cost more than most people's cars. This one had a row of Porsches parked side by side, and the owner met me at the door already skeptical.
He had always used the dealer. Not because he loved the wait or the bill, but because he'd been told more than once that Porsche security was dealer-only. That belief had held for years across multiple cars. He'd finally called me because the dealer wanted him to leave the Cayman for several days and come back on a weekday.
The 2008 Cayman's flip key is a single unit that handles both the remote functions and the ignition transponder. I connected through the OBD port, read the immobilizer data, programmed a fresh key blank, and cut the blade to match his locks. The whole thing happened in his garage, next to his other cars, while he watched.
He kept waiting for the part where it got complicated. It didn't. The new key started the car, the remote locked and unlocked the doors, and we tested it twice just to be thorough.
He mentioned the dealer quote on his way to put the new spare on his key hook. I told him to keep the number in his phone for the next one. He said he probably would, but for a different reason than before.
