He was out in Ramona Highlands early on a weekday, parked in the gravel lot of a small winery off the back roads, waiting for a distributor to show up. His 2009 Porsche Cayman was sitting right there and it would not start. The blade turned. The ignition cylinder accepted it. But the car just sat there and he got a key-not-detected warning on the dash. No crank, nothing.

I connected through the OBD port, read what the immobilizer was seeing, and confirmed the transponder element in his flip key had stopped communicating reliably. The fob itself was intact, the blade was fine, but the transponder had gone intermittent, probably from a small internal fracture that made the coil lose contact under vibration. This happens on these older flip keys after enough key-ring weight and road miles.
I wrote fresh transponder data matched to his car's immobilizer, verified the remote buttons while I was at it, and handed it back.
He started the car in the same gravel lot it had been sitting dead in. Made his meeting. The dealer would have been a week out and a tow away. I was one call and 40 minutes.
