I was already running a job earlier that day out near San Diego Country Estates when the call came in. Friday night, close to 10:15, a couple had walked out to the parking lot near the cocktail lounge and the Cayman wasn't responding to anything. No door unlock, no welcome lighting, nothing. They'd tried clicking the fob from every angle and figured the car was just going to sit there until the dealer could see it Monday morning.

When I got to the car, the first thing I did was pull the flip blade out of the fob and get the door open manually. That's the part people forget exists. The car-shaped fob on these has an emergency blade folded right in, and it gets the door open when the battery is fully gone. Once I was in, I held the fob against the start button because even a nearly dead battery can push through enough signal at close range to crank the engine. It turned over. Battery wasn't at zero, just critically low.
Swapped the CR2032 on the hood. Ran a quick re-sync through the OBD port because the pairing had gone soft from the voltage drop. Walked every button, checked the door handles, confirmed the engine started normally from the driver's seat.
The whole thing took about 25 minutes. They drove home that Friday night instead of waiting on a dealer's schedule. The dealer conversation came up and I just told them what they already suspected: it wouldn't have been cheap and it definitely wouldn't have been fast.
