2012 Volkswagen Tiguan
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Volkswagen Tiguan Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman came out of a shop on Main Street in Downtown Ramona and her Tiguan key just stopped. The remote side had been getting flaky for a few days, shorter range, had to stand right next to the car.

Then one afternoon it stopped folding back properly, the blade got stiff in the housing, and she forced it once too many times. The hinge pin cracked. She had one key total.

She called me before she called the dealer, which was smart, because the dealer was going to make her tow it in. With no working key and no spare, the car is not going anywhere on its own. I met her at the parking lot off the main strip.

I had the correct flip key blank in the van. Cut the blade to her vehicle on site, then plugged into the OBD port and walked through the security process. The 2012 Tiguan keeps its immobilizer data in the vehicle, so with the right equipment you pull the security credentials and enroll the new key without touching the dealer or waiting on a part to ship from anywhere.

Thirty-five minutes. She tested the remote, tested the blade, started the car twice to confirm the transponder was reading clean. Done in the parking lot while the afternoon traffic on Main Street did its thing.

She had called the dealer before she called me. They quoted her a part that needed to be ordered, a programming labor charge on top, and a tow because she had no working key to drive it in. The tow quote alone was its own line item. She saved a good chunk going mobile, and she did not lose a day waiting on a service bay.
