Start with the CR2032. The remote buttons run on the battery inside the fob. The transponder that starts the car is separate and doesn't depend on it, which is exactly why the car still starts when the battery dies. Pop the fob open carefully, check that the battery is seated flat against the contacts, and swap in a fresh CR2032.

If a new battery doesn't fix it, the next thing to check is whether the fob took any damage. The flip mechanism puts stress on the hinge area over time, and a crack in the circuit board near the hinge is a known weak point on these fobs. If that's the case, the fob shell and electronics need to be replaced and the new unit programmed to the car. But try the battery first. Most of the time, that's all it is.
