2009 Volvo C70 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There's a cobbler shop on a side street in La Mesa Village -- the kind of place that's been there forever -- and the owner of a 2009 Volvo C70 was parked out front when he called me.
He'd already had a locksmith out. That locksmith programmed a replacement smart fob, the car started, and everyone went home happy. For five days.
By day six, the C70 was starting in the morning and rejecting the fob by evening. Not dead, not stuck, just inconsistent. He figured the body control module was going bad. The dealer quoted him a significant diagnostic fee just to look at it, plus days of wait time.
I pulled up in La Mesa Village, popped the fob, and read the chip. The previous locksmith had used the wrong transponder variant. It was close enough to pass the initial handshake with the body control module, but the system's secondary verification kept catching the mismatch. Throw in a CR2450 that was already running low, and the whole thing was a slow-motion failure.
I programmed a new fob with the correct chip matched to his vehicle, replaced the battery while I was in there, and walked every function: lock, unlock, the trunk release, and the ignition cycle. It worked the first time and every time after.
He saved a good chunk over what the dealer wanted, and more importantly, he got a key that was actually right for his car -- not almost right.
