It depends on what you still have in hand. With one working key, the job is usually cut a fresh HD106-PT, copy the chip data, then test it through multiple start cycles. Blunt answer: the immobilizer is not accepting what it is reading. Acura’s immobilizer bulletin says if the system sees an incorrect key, the indicator goes on for two seconds and then blinks continuously, and the RL will not run because fuel and starter circuits get disabled. Start with the truth test. Try a different known-good key. If one key works and the other does not, the chip in the dead one is the suspect. If both fail, you start looking at the reader side like the immobilizer receiver (35109-SZ3-A01) and its harness (35103-SZ3-A01).

Q: I bought a CWT72147KA remote. Why won’t my 1996 RL learn it?

Short answer: match the part number and re-add every remote. The common RL remote here is 72147-SZ3-A02, FCC ID CWT72147KA, and you will also see CAN 1788-101-635 on some OEM units. It transmits in the 433.5 to 434.5 MHz band and uses a CR2025. Programming is a timed ignition ON and OFF sequence that makes the car relearn remotes, so anything not present can drop out. Acura Tech Line info 110102 tells techs to check the key reminder beeper and ceiling light circuits before blaming the transmitter.

Santa Barbara call, Goleta Beach Park. 1996 Acura RL, parked downstairs in an underground garage with a low ceiling. The owner said a tow truck could not get down there, and she only had one beat-up key left.
