In Ventura, over by Cemetery Memorial Park, a physical therapist flagged me down between patients. She needed a spare key for her 2004 Acura RL and didn't have time to leave the car anywhere.
She had her VIN, registration, and ID ready before I even asked. Best part: she still had one working master key. That meant a clean add-a-key instead of a full all-keys-lost immobilizer reset, which on these KA9 RLs gets more involved.
This RL takes the HD106-PT transponder blank. Common OEM crosses are 35113-SZ3-A01 and 35113-S6M-A00, and the chip side runs the Megamos 13 family under Acura's Type 1 system. I duplicated the mechanical cut first, then read the encrypted ID from her existing master key and wrote a fresh chip matched to that immobilizer. No guessing, no "let's see if it takes."
We walked to the car and did the only test that counts. Key in, ignition ON, start. Off. Start again. The immobilizer light came on briefly, then went out, exactly what a recognized key looks like, and the 3.5 fired both times without hesitation.
She grabbed the spare, checked her schedule on her phone, and went straight back to work. The dealer route would have meant scheduling days out, possibly towing if she ever lost that last key, and sitting in a waiting room. She got it handled in a parking lot in under half an hour.
