2008 Acura RL MECHANICAL-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
In Ventura, along the Main Street corridor, a guy called me about his 2008 Acura RL. He had just bought it used, and it came with one remote. One key meant one mistake away from a lockout, and he knew it.
First thing I did was confirm what he actually had. On this RL it is not a plain metal key. It is the KB1-generation Keyless Access smart remote, FCC ID ACJ8D8E24A04. These come in two memory versions: 72147-SJA-A01 for Memory No.1 and 72147-SJA-A11 for Memory No.2. The car greets you with "Welcome Driver 1" or "Welcome Driver 2" on the MID depending on which remote wakes it up.
Before programming anything, I checked system voltage. These second-gen RLs are sensitive to low cranking voltage, and the Keyless Access module will throw warnings that look like a fob failure when it is really just the 12V sagging.
I cut a fresh HD103 insert blade, registered the second remote through the diagnostic port, and confirmed the immobilizer accepted the Philips ID46 transponder chip. Then the boring truth loop. Lock. Unlock. Trunk. Panic. Push button start. Shut down. Restart. Walk both remotes through it back to back.
Once the MID stayed quiet and both fobs triggered their own "Welcome Driver" message, he finally relaxed. Dealer route would have meant ordering parts and waiting for an open bay. We handled it right there in one visit.
