In Ventura, in Seaside Park, I met a 2005 Acura RL owner who was living on one tired fob. The shell was split, the insert key had play in it, and she kept checking her pockets like she was going to lose it mid-sentence.
This RL is the first year of the second-generation KB1 car, and the key system is the whole deal: Keyless Access plus immobilizer, not just a cut blade. No ignition trick programming here. It’s a proximity fob (FCC ID ACJ8D8E24A04) tied into the smart control unit and LF antenna network.
She’d already been told the dealer route meant paperwork, ordering parts, and a wait. I pulled the correct Driver 1 fob assembly (72147-SJA-A01), cut a fresh HD103 emergency insert, then registered it through the diagnostic port to the Keyless Access main unit.
Then I did the boring part that tells the truth: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, then two start cycles with the new fob in a different pocket. When it behaved every time, she stopped squeezing the old fob like it was made of glass.
