In Ventura, in the Thompson Boulevard district, I got a call from a 2007 Acura RL owner who bought it used with one working smart key. He wasn’t locked out yet, but you could tell he was living on borrowed time.

On these cars, the metal blade is the emergency insert key, the HD103 style that replaces Acura insert key part number 35111-SJA-305. I decoded the driver door, cut a fresh insert blade, then plugged in and registered a second matching remote so he’d have a real spare that could start the car, not just open the door.
There’s a known immobilizer registration glitch on this platform, so I was ready for it. If i-HDS hangs with a “no communication” message, you pull the insert, remove the ignition knob cover, key on with the metal blade, and retry. Clean process.
The human moment was him watching my hands the whole time, like the original fob might vanish if he blinked. Once both remotes started the RL back to back, his shoulders dropped. Dealer route would’ve meant a drop-off and a wait. This was handled right there.
