In Ventura, along the Main Street corridor, a guy called me about a 2008 Acura RL with one remote. He had just bought it used, and one key meant one mistake away from a bad day.
First thing I did was confirm what he actually had. On this RL it is not a plain metal key. It is the Keyless Access remote, FCC ID ACJ8D8E24A04. These come in two memory versions, 72147-SJA-A01 for Memory No.1 and 72147-SJA-A11 for Memory No.2. The car greets you with Welcome Driver 1 or Welcome Driver 2 depending on which remote wakes it up.
Before programming anything, I checked system voltage. These RLs can throw Keyless Access warnings if the battery dips during cranking.
I cut a fresh HD103 insert blade, registered the second remote through the diagnostic port, and confirmed the immobilizer accepted the ID46 transponder.
Then the boring truth loop. Lock. Unlock. Trunk. Panic. Start. Shut down. Restart.
Once both remotes worked back to back and the MID stayed quiet, he finally relaxed. Dealer route would have meant ordering parts and waiting. We handled it right there in one visit.
