Q: All keys lost on my 2011 TSX. Why does that job take longer than a spare?

Blunt: the car has to forget the missing keys first. A 2011 TSX immobilizer stores up to six transponder IDs. With one working key, I can add another. With zero keys, I have to run the Add and Delete Keys routine, then register the new ID46 chip and sync the remote. Acura’s own bulletin language calls out a five-character “first password” used with HDS during key setup. Any key not present when we delete gets knocked out so it can’t start the car later.

Q: Are aftermarket MLBHLIK-1T flip keys cheaper, and will they work on a 2011 TSX?

Sometimes, yes. But matching the FCC ID isn’t the whole story. The TSX key needs a working Philips ID46 transponder for the immobilizer and a remote board that actually outputs the right signal for MLBHLIK-1T. I see a lot of online keys that are just a shell with no chip, or they come with a weak board and the range is bad from day one. If you’re re-casing an original, OEM boards often have markings like OMRON G8D-452H-A.

Q: My TSX flip key won’t stay clicked open. Is there a bulletin or fix?

Yep. Acura put it in Service Bulletin 10-008 (Nov 29, 2011): “Retractable Master Key Does Not Lock in Its Extended Position.” The fix is not a whole new car key from scratch. You swap the key case, cut the new blade to match the original, then rewrite the transponder into the immobilizer with HDS. For the TSX sedan, the key case part numbers called out are 35120-TL0-307 and 35120-TL0-308. It even calls out HDS software 2.020.018 or later. Warranty write-up shows op 1161D3 with failed part 72147-S0K-A23.

Q: What does the blinking green key light mean on a 2011 TSX?

That’s the immobilizer talking. The 2011 TSX dash guide spells it out: “Immobilizer (blinks): improperly coded key; use correct key.” When it’s blinking, the engine may crank but the fuel system stays off. First moves: try your spare, and keep other transponder keys off the ring while you test. The CR1616 only runs the buttons, so don’t blame the fob battery for a no-start. If it keeps blinking with both keys, you’re into diagnosis of the antenna ring and the ignition immobilizer module (P/N 39730-TL4-A01).

Crossroads Shopping Center in Camarillo, Saturday afternoon. A 2011 Acura TSX was parked with the hazards on and the owner pacing with an empty key ring. He had one flip key and it was gone.

Start with the FCC ID and the part number on your old key. 2011 TSX sedan isn’t a smart key trim split, it’s the MLBHLIK-1T flip key setup used on the second-gen TSX.
