The dealer told him three days. He needed three hours. A mechanic on his lunch break at the auto parts store in Goleta had a 2005 GMC Yukon with a key that had stopped programming to the car. I met him at the parts store lot during his break. I used my Smart Pro to access the GM key learning menu through OBD. His remote with FCC ID LHJ011 was a 3-button remote that needed a fresh program after the old data corrupted. Total OBD time from plug-in to engine start was about 20 minutes, and most of that was the security access timer counting down. There's nothing I can do to speed that timer up. GM built it in as a theft deterrent.
He drove back to the shop after lunch. Total was 101. The dealer quoted 214 and a three-day window. The irony of a mechanic calling a locksmith isn't new to me, but key programming is a specialty tool game. Most shop techs don't carry immobilizer programmers.
