2018 GMC Yukon
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2018 GMC Yukon Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was working out of East Ventura on a Tuesday afternoon when a woman pulled up next to my van in a shopping center lot. She had her 2018 GMC Yukon running already, so I knew it wasn't an all-keys-lost situation. She wanted a spare. One key, and she'd been putting it off for months.

She mentioned her husband had priced it at the dealer a while back and they'd both agreed to ignore the number and deal with it later. She was now on her own with one working fob and a kid in a car seat. Later had arrived.

I pulled out the fob to check it before cutting anything. The factory fob, six buttons, CR2032 inside. I popped it open to look at the battery tray and the contacts, and while I had it apart I noticed the battery had a slight bulge, which you see sometimes when a CR2032 has been sitting in a warm car for a year or two. Swapped it on the spot before I did anything else.

Then I went to work. Cut a new insert blade on my machine to match her existing key, ran the programming sequence through the diagnostic port to register the new fob, and tested every button from across the parking lot. Lock, unlock, the whole panel. Then I had her hold the new fob and walk up to the driver's door herself to confirm the passive entry was reading correctly. It was.

The whole job ran about 35 minutes. She mentioned the dealer quote again as she was leaving. I told her what I charge, and she just nodded like she'd suspected that would be the case. That spare is now in her bag and the original is in her husband's.
