A college student home for break was staying at a place near Chumash Park in Ventura, using the visitor parking at her friend's apartment. Her 2016 GMC Yukon needed a replacement key, but she'd already been through it with another locksmith who tried, failed, left fault codes stacked in the body control module, and still charged her for the attempt. The Yukon now wouldn't accept any fob at all.

I plugged my IM608 into the OBD-II port and saw the mess right away. A pile of DTCs from the incomplete programming and a BCM stuck in a half-written state, basically confused about how many keys it was supposed to know. The previous tech had forced a programming routine that didn't match the 2016 Yukon's key learning procedure, which is how the module got locked up.
I cleared everything out, verified the BCM was clean, and ran the GM key learn sequence from scratch. Her 6-button HYQ1AA fob, part number 13508280, registered on the first pass. I turned the screen toward her so she could see the confirmation herself.
Car started clean. No warning lights, no "Service Theft Deterrent System" message.
I didn't charge extra for the cleanup. Fixing the mess is part of doing the job right. She saved a good chunk over what the dealer quoted to sort it out.
