2000 GMC Yukon
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to me in the Lake Los Carneros area of Goleta?

Call us and we'll give you a real arrival window based on where we are that day. We're mobile and already running calls in the area, so we're usually faster than any alternative that involves trailering a truck somewhere. Lake Los Carneros is well within our service area.

Q: Can I get a key made today?

Almost certainly yes. The 2000 Yukon uses a standard mechanical key, and I carry blanks and cutting equipment for this generation in the service vehicle. As long as I can get to you and decode the lock or copy your existing key, you'll have a working replacement the same day you call. There's no parts order, no dealer scheduling, no waiting on programming equipment to connect.

Q: I only have one worn key left. Can you still copy it, or do you need to decode the lock?

A worn key is still usually readable on my cutting machine, but it depends on how far gone it is. If the peaks and valleys are still distinguishable, I can trace the pattern and cut a clean copy. If it's too far worn to read accurately, I'll decode the lock cylinder directly instead. Either way, one worn key isn't a dead end.

Q: My 2000 Yukon key turns but the ignition feels stiff or sticky. Do I need a new key or is something else going on?

Stiff ignition cylinders are a known wear issue on full-size GM trucks from this era. A worn key can make it worse because the cut no longer aligns the tumblers cleanly. Sometimes a freshly cut key on the original code loosens things up noticeably. If the cylinder itself is sticky regardless of which key you use, the cylinder may need to be serviced or replaced. I can assess that on-site.

2000 GMC Yukon Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near Lake Los Carneros in Goleta, I got a call from a guy with a 2000 GMC Yukon. He'd been down to one key for a while and finally lost it somewhere on his property. Not misplaced. Gone. He'd looked.

He called a dealer first. They told him they'd need the truck in the shop. He said that was a problem because the truck wasn't going anywhere without a key. That's the part dealers sometimes forget to think through.

I drove out to him. The Yukon was sitting in his driveway, locked. I decoded the door lock cylinder, got the cut, and ran a replacement blade on my machine right there. Tested it in the door, tested it in the ignition. Turned right over.

The whole thing took maybe twenty minutes from the time I pulled up. He asked if I needed to plug anything in. I told him no, this one's all mechanical. He seemed mildly surprised that anything on a vehicle could still be that simple.

He asked about a spare while I was there. Cut him a second one off the same code. Now he's got two keys and a plan if it happens again. The dealer visit he was dreading never happened.

How long does a 2000 GMC Yukon key replacement take?▼

On this generation, it's one of the faster jobs I do. The 2000 Yukon uses a mechanical key, so there's no security relearn, no timed cycles, no OBD connection. Once I decode your lock or cut from a working key pattern, I can have a replacement blade cut and tested in well under thirty minutes. All-keys-lost takes a few extra minutes because I'm decoding the cylinder rather than copying a worn original, but it's still a quick job.
