Do you need to tow your 2005 Mazda Miata to the dealer? Probably not. For most Mazda models from the mid-2000s through the early 2020s, I handle all-keys-lost right at the car.

I connected my Smart Pro to OBD and ran the Mazda smart key AKL procedure, which walks through PIN read, keyless module reset, and the 7-minute security wait. Her metal key, FCC ID , was a -button smart key. I programmed two new fobs as the system requires and tested everything in her garage.
Her total was about 95. Dealer would have been 200 plus the tow. There are some newest-model Mazdas where my tools don't support AKL yet. Those go to the dealer and I'll tell you upfront. But for the vast majority on the road, I do all-keys-lost on-site.
