I lost all my Mercedes-Benz keys. Can you still make a new one?

Yes, for most Mercedes models. All-keys-lost on a Mercedes involves reading the EIS/EZS module, calculating the security password, and programming new keys to open slots. On FBS3 platforms like the W204 C-Class, W211 E-Class, and W221 S-Class, we handle this entirely on site. Mercedes owners who call the dealer for AKL get quoted $1,000 to $2,000 and are told to tow the vehicle in and wait weeks for a factory-ordered key. We come to you and do the job at your location. On newer FBS4 models, we will tell you upfront what is possible and what requires dealer involvement.

Do I need to tow my car to the dealer if I have no keys?

Not for most Mercedes models we service. A mobile locksmith with the right tools and credentials can handle all-keys-lost right where the vehicle sits. One E-Class owner was facing a couple of weeks wait and $600 at the dealer. A Sprinter owner had one dealer refuse to help and another quote $1,200 through a third party. Towing a Mercedes to the dealer adds $150 to $250 on top of whatever they charge for the key. We come to you. The only exceptions are certain FBS4 platforms where dealer-only server access is required, and we will tell you upfront if that applies to your 2013 Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Older W211 and W221 models require EIS bench work that adds time. At the dealer, the same work takes one to six weeks because of key ordering from Germany, backlog at the key center, and scheduling delays. One owner waited almost two months. What battery does the 2013 Mercedes-Benz C-Class key fob use?

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz C-Class uses a CR2025 battery. When we do an all-keys-lost job, the new key always comes with a fresh battery installed. You will not need to worry about battery life on your new key for a long time. We also recommend keeping a spare battery at home once you have your key, since a dead fob on a Mercedes keyless go system will trigger a "key not detected" warning and can leave you unable to start the car even though everything else is fine.

Can you make a spare at the same time so I have two keys?

Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Mercedes EIS modules can store up to 8 keys in separate slots. Programming a second key while we are already connected to the EIS costs less than calling us back for a separate visit later because the security access and bench work are only performed once. If you just went through all-keys-lost on your Mercedes, the last thing you want is to be in that situation again. The dealer charges $600 to $1,500 per key.
