Got a call from a guy in the Juanamaria neighborhood in Ventura. His 2010 C300 had one working key left and he wanted a spare before that one disappeared too. Smart move, honestly. Most people wait until they're stranded.
I pulled up and he had the chrome remote head key sitting on the kitchen counter. Battery was original. Five years past dead. He'd been unlocking with the mechanical blade and holding the fob right against the EIS to start the car for months. Thought that was normal.
Popped out the EIS module, read the NEC chip on the bench, pulled the working key's data, and wrote a fresh IYZ-3312 to a blank. Cut the HU64 blade on site using his existing key as a reference. Then I seated a new CR2025 in both fobs, his old one and the new one, because the original battery had started leaking onto the contact plate.
Programmed both keys back into the EIS, tested each one: remote lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and a clean IR start from the driver's seat without pressing the fob against the column. He just sat there turning the car on and off like he forgot that was how it was supposed to work.
Two working keys, both tested, done in his driveway in about 20 minutes. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, and no appointment three weeks out.
