Got a call from a guy near Camarillo Ranch House. His 2001 C320 had been sitting in the driveway for two days because his only key stopped turning the ignition. He had already called a dealer and they told him three to five business days after towing it in, plus ordering a new SmartKey blank.

When I pulled up, I checked the key first. The HU64 blade had visible wear on the shoulder, and the IR window on the key head was cloudy. Popped the EIS cover off the steering column and connected to the NEC chip on the A203 545 06 08 module through the diagnostic port. Read the EIS data, pulled the key file, and cut a fresh blade on my Condor XC-Mini Plus right on his driveway.
Programmed the new key's IR transponder to the DAS3 system, swapped in a fresh CR2025 for the remote side, and tested all four buttons: lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Then the real test, cold start. Fired right up.
The whole thing took maybe 50 minutes. He just stood there holding his old key, looking at the new one like he was comparing them. Then he said something that stuck with me: "I already cleared my whole Thursday for the tow."
He got his Thursday back. That part of the job never gets old.
