A delivery driver pulled over at a roadside spot in National City had his key snap inside the door lock of his 2002 Acura RSX. The blade broke clean off. He'd been using a worn key with a slight bend for months and it finally gave out. Another locksmith he called first told him the lock cylinder would need to be drilled and replaced. That would have meant a new lock, new keys, and a bill pushing $450. He called me for a second opinion.
I used my HON66 Lishi to extract the broken blade fragment from the door lock without scratching the wafer surfaces inside. Once it was out, I decoded the lock by reading each wafer position, which gave me the exact cut depths for a new key without needing the original. I also used my VVDI2 to read the transponder data from the broken key head since the chip was still intact in the cracked housing. His remote-head key, FCC ID OUCG8D-355H-A, was a 3-button unit that I rebuilt into a fresh shell with the salvaged chip.
No drilling and no cylinder replacement. His total was $105. The other locksmith's plan would have been $222 or more with parts and labor. His original lock works with the new key exactly like it worked with the old one.
