She was in the parking lot off the road near Ramona Country Estates, just done with the vet, dog in the back seat, August heat sitting on everything. The RSX fob went silent. No click, no chirp, no lights. She could see the dog through the glass and the car was off. Windows cracked but not enough for a San Diego County afternoon.

That kind of failure is gradual enough that owners usually think the fob just died on its own one day. It had been getting worse for a while.

I replaced the fob shell and internals, seated a new battery, retensioned the contacts, and ran the programming sequence through the OBD port with my diagnostic tool. Tested lock, unlock, and trunk release. Then I verified the transponder side -- the key blade -- was still communicating with the immobilizer, because the last thing you want is to hand someone a working remote and a car that won't start.

Everything checked out. Engine running in under forty-five minutes from the time she called. The dealer would have had her leaving the car overnight in this heat and paying noticeably more on top of it.
