It is more involved than adding a spare alongside an existing key, and it takes the right diagnostic equipment to do it properly.
I accessed the immobilizer module through the OBD port, cleared the old registrations, and programmed two new smart fobs. I also cut the emergency insert blade for both. Walked her through the fob functions, confirmed both keys started the car, and tested the door handles.
She drove home that night with her baby. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a multi-day wait, and a bill that was a significant chunk more. The stolen fob is erased. The car does not know it ever existed.
