For the remote programming, these older GM setups have an onboard relearn cycle built in, so the whole job ran without needing to hook into the OBD port at all. I walked through the procedure, enrolled both the original and the new remote together so neither one got wiped, and tested all four buttons on both fobs before I packed up.
He had two working keys and two working remotes inside of 30 minutes. Paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted. I don't think the dealer comparison even registered with him after a while. He was just happy to have a backup before he ever needed one.
