2003 Buick Rendezvous
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2003 Buick Rendezvous Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over in Buena Creek, I got a text from an estate caretaker. He was out at a ranch property off a gravel access road, no paved surface, no cell signal worth mentioning, and a 2003 Rendezvous that wouldn't start. His only key had given out. He'd had it for years and never bothered with a spare.

He dropped me a GPS pin. I loaded up for his vehicle and drove out.

When I got there, the Rendezvous was sitting at the ranch gate, gravel on both sides, not a flatbed in sight that would have made it up that road without tearing something up underneath. The caretaker was standing next to it with the look people get when they've already done the math on a tow and didn't like the number.

I cut a replacement key blade to the vehicle and programmed the transponder chip to the immobilizer right there on the gravel. The engine turned over and held idle. No stall, no warning light sitting on, just a running Rendezvous at a ranch gate in Vista.

He told me he'd called the dealer first out of habit. They wanted him to have the car towed in, then schedule the work for a day or two later. That wasn't a real option where he was standing.

He saved a good chunk, and more importantly he didn't have to figure out how to tow something off a road that no flatbed wanted to touch.
