2006 Buick Rendezvous
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: What key does the 2006 Buick Rendezvous use, and can I get a copy made at a hardware store?

No. A hardware store can cut the blade shape, but they cannot program the transponder chip inside the key head. Without a properly programmed chip, the car will crank and not start, or start briefly and then stall. You need a key that is both cut correctly to your vehicle and has the chip programmed to match your immobilizer. That is the full job, both steps together.

Q: Is EZ Car Keyz licensed and insured to work on my vehicle?

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, fully insured, and bonded. We are also BBB A+ rated and part of Google's Guaranteed program, which you can verify directly online. When I show up at your Rolling Hills Ranch driveway, you are not guessing who is working on your car.

Q: I have a working key. Can I program a second key for my 2006 Rendezvous myself, or do I need a locksmith?

This generation has an onboard relearn sequence that works when you already have a functional key in hand. The catch is that the procedure is timing-sensitive and varies depending on how many keys are already registered. Get it wrong and you can lock out the keys you already have, which turns a simple spare job into an all-keys-lost job. I would rather walk you through the situation on the phone before you try it.

Q: My 2006 Rendezvous cranks fine but shuts off right after starting. Is that the transponder?

That pattern, cranks and starts then immediately stalls, is a classic sign the immobilizer did not recognize the key. Could be a worn or damaged chip, a key that was never properly programmed, or a transponder that failed over time. I diagnose it on site. If the chip is the issue, a replacement key gets you back running the same day.

2006 Buick Rendezvous Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy out in Rolling Hills Ranch who had snapped his key in the ignition of his 2006 Buick Rendezvous. Half the blade was wedged in the cylinder, the other half was in his palm. He sounded calm about it, which usually means the situation is worse than he's letting on.

When I got there, the broken piece was in deep. I took my time with the extraction, working carefully so the wafers stayed undamaged. Pulled it clean.

Then I decoded the lock, cut a fresh blade to match, and programmed the transponder chip in the new key head. He had a second key from when he bought the truck, so with that working key in hand I was able to run the add-a-key sequence right there in the driveway. No tow, no dealership waiting room, no leaving the car overnight.

He asked about the dealer out of curiosity, not complaint. I told him what I'd heard from other customers. He said he saved a good chunk and appreciated that I came to him.

Done in under an hour. That's the job.

Buick Rendezvous Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 2006 Buick Rendezvous key fob use a battery I need to replace?▼

The 2006 Rendezvous uses a transponder key, not a fob. There are no buttons, no remote, no battery to swap. It is a metal key with a transponder chip embedded in the plastic head. That chip communicates with the immobilizer when you turn the key, and it draws power from the ignition system, not a coin cell.
