2024 Cadillac CT5
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How long will a replacement key fob last on a 2024 CT5?

A properly programmed replacement fob should hold up as long as your original. The programming itself does not wear out. The CR2450 battery is typically good for two to four years depending on how often you use the remote functions. The physical shell and button contacts tend to show wear before the electronics give out, and if the case cracks or a button tears, the internals can usually be moved into a fresh shell without reprogramming anything.

Q: What if the replacement key stops working after a few weeks?

Call us. We stand behind the work. If the remote loses function, the vehicle stops recognizing the key, or anything behaves differently than it did when we left, we come back and fix it. This matters more than people realize.

Q: My CT5 is showing a key-not-detected warning but the battery is fine. What is actually going on?

A few things can cause this even with a good battery. The antennas that read the fob are distributed around the cabin and if one has a wiring issue, certain positions in the car will drop the signal while others work fine. Some CT5 owners have noted the warning appearing intermittently before the fob fails completely, which usually points to the fob's internal electronics rather than the battery.

Q: Can I program a second CT5 key myself, or does it always need a technician?

On the 2024 CT5, no. There is no owner-accessible add-a-key sequence. Programming requires a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port. This is not a vehicle where an ignition-cycling trick is going to register a new remote. That type of onboard relearn applies to older, simpler key systems, not this generation. If you already have a spare fob sitting in a drawer, it still needs to be enrolled by someone with the right equipment before it will do anything.

2024 Cadillac CT5 Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over in 4S Ranch, a CT5 owner called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He had one working key and he wanted a spare before a road trip. Simple job on paper.

He met me in a parking lot near the neighborhood. The original fob looked fine from the outside, but when I checked the battery with a meter it was sitting low, not dead enough to throw a key-not-detected warning yet, but low enough to matter. I swapped it out for a fresh CR2450 before I even started the programming process. That is just habit on these.

The add-a-key sequence ran through the diagnostic port. The security system accepted the new remote on the first cycle. I walked all five buttons, checked the door locks, and verified the vehicle was recognizing both fobs as distinct units before I packed up.

He had his spare in hand, both keys tested, in about 25 minutes. He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a wait of several days just to get the appointment. That part of the conversation was brief. The job spoke for itself.

Cadillac CT5 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket keys on Cadillac vehicles?▼

We use OEM-spec remotes verified for the specific vehicle. On the 2024 CT5, the key system communicates over the vehicle's network during programming, and cheap or unverified aftermarket fobs can fail to enroll even when the process appears to run correctly. The remote looks programmed but the immobilizer never fully accepts it. The factory fob for this vehicle uses a specific transponder chip that has to match what the security system expects.
