Out in Fernbrook, in Ramona, I got a call late on a weeknight. A woman had been at a brewery patio nearby and her purse was taken right off the bench next to her. Keys, wallet, phone, gone. She borrowed the bartender's phone, called the police, called her roommate, then called me.
Her 1995 Chrysler Concorde was sitting in the lot with no keys at all. Her roommate had already called the dealer while waiting for the police report to be filed. The dealer said they could order parts but the car would need to come in, it would take several business days, and they strongly suggested she get the locks addressed too since whoever had the stolen fob could still use it on the doors. The estimate they gave the roommate was not small.

She drove home that night. The stolen remote can still physically reach the door lock cylinder, but the car's security system will not recognize it. That part mattered to her more than anything else.
The dealer quote included a tow, the wait, and a number that made her roommate wince when she repeated it. What I charged was a fraction of that, done the same night, in the parking lot.
