2022 Ford Bronco Sport
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2022 Ford Bronco Sport Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy over in Nestor called me on a weekday afternoon. His 2022 Bronco Sport was sitting in the apartment complex lot and his spare fob had stopped working completely.

Not intermittent, not weak range. Dead. He had already called the dealer and they told him to tow it in, show up with ID and registration, and plan for a wait because key orders sometimes take time depending on parts availability. He said the number they quoted made him feel like he was buying a second key that cost almost as much as a car payment. He asked if I was actually cheaper or if I was just going to match it.

I told him to stay put.

I drove out to the complex, found the Bronco Sport in the lot, and started with the basics before anything else. Popped the fob open right on the hood. The battery was a CR2032. Someone had replaced it before I got there, wrong size, wrong cell entirely for this fob. Swapped in the correct CR2450, reseated it clean, and closed the fob.

Tested range from across the parking aisle. Doors locked, doors unlocked, everything responding. The fob was never dead. It was just running on the wrong fuel.

I walked him through why cell size matters on this specific fob, showed him the battery tray, and made sure he had the right part number written down for next time. The whole thing took less than twenty minutes. He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, never moved the car, and never needed a tow.

Sometimes the fix is a two-dollar battery and knowing which one.
