2024 GMC Hummer Ev
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for the Hummer EV?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the correct fob for your truck and give you a price before I leave. I show up with the matching fob, a fresh CR2450 already installed, and the programming tools to communicate with the vehicle security system and body control module. Once on site, I connect to the OBD port, enroll the new fob, test all six buttons, and verify the truck responds correctly.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Your vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership. Registration or title works. I pull the VIN from the dashboard or door jamb to confirm the key specs before I touch anything. GMC dealers ask for the same documentation, and for good reason: you're authorizing access to a vehicle security system. One thing worth having ready if you can: know whether you have any other working fobs.

Q: My Hummer EV fob range dropped suddenly. Is the fob failing or is something else going on?

Short range is almost always the CR2450 going low before it fully dies. These cells hold voltage well for a long time, then drop off fast. Swap the battery first. If the fob was ever dropped hard, it's also worth opening it up to check that the internal antenna trace on the circuit board isn't cracked, which is something that can happen on a heavy fob without leaving any visible damage outside.

Q: Can I buy a replacement fob online and have it programmed, or does it have to come from GMC?

You can buy aftermarket fobs, but it matters where they come from. The fob has to match the factory FCC ID for the 2024 Hummer EV. A mismatched fob either won't pair at all or will pair but drop functions. I've seen both. If you already purchased a fob and want to know if it'll work, have the FCC ID on the back of your existing fob and the one you bought ready when you call.

2024 GMC Hummer Ev Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A foreman living near Bressi Ranch called me one Tuesday morning before his shift.

He had his 2024 GMC Hummer EV parked in his apartment garage, one fob working, and a gut feeling he should have a spare before that one decided to quit on him. He'd already called the GMC dealer. They gave him a number that made him pause, told him to bring the truck in, and estimated a wait. He drives every day. Taking half a day off wasn't something he was willing to negotiate.

He found me, we talked through the job on the phone, and I was at his garage before 8 a.m.

I pulled up what I needed on the Hummer EV: the correct fob matching the factory FCC ID already on his keyring, the right CR2450 cell, and my programming setup. Connected to the OBD port, walked through the immobilizer enrollment sequence, and had a second fob registered to the truck in about 20 minutes. Tested every function, confirmed the truck recognized both fobs, and handed it to him as he was heading upstairs to grab his work bag.

He got his spare. His truck never left the garage. He made his shift.

The dealer option wasn't wrong, just a different math problem when time is the variable.

GMC Hummer Ev Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2024 GMC Hummer EV somewhere for key replacement?▼

No. I come to wherever the truck is parked, your driveway, your job site, or a parking garage near Bressi Ranch in Carlsbad. The programming equipment I use connects through the OBD port, so there's no reason the vehicle has to move. GMC dealers do require the truck in their service bay, and on a vehicle this size, that matters.
