2004 Jaguar X-Type
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2004 Jaguar X-Type Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy over in Berry Park, Imperial Beach, called me about his 2004 Jaguar X-Type. Retired, kept the car in great shape, used it for errands around town. He had dropped his key on the garage floor and the plastic housing had cracked clean through at the key ring loop. The flip blade was still attached but wobbling, and the fob body was held together mostly by habit.

He had already called the Jaguar dealer. They told him the whole fob needed replacing, programmed from scratch. He wrote down the number they gave him and read it to me on the phone. It was a lot.

When I got to him in Berry Park, I asked to see the key before I said anything else. I popped the housing, pulled the circuit board, and tested continuity on the buttons. Everything was alive. The chip was reading correctly on my tool. The only thing wrong with that fob was plastic.

I transferred his working board and transponder into a fresh housing, seated a new CR2032, and ran through every button on the remote side. Then I confirmed the transponder was still enrolled and the car would start normally. The flip blade clicked back into place the way it was supposed to. Done.

He held it up and clicked it a few times. Looked like a new key.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer wanted, and the electronics he had been trusting for years were still in there doing their job.
