2005 Jaguar X-Type Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call out to Bonsall on a Tuesday evening. A woman was parked at a friend's property off a long unpaved road and her X-Type flip key had taken a hard drop onto gravel. The housing had a clean crack through the back half, and when she tried to use it she got nothing from the remote buttons. The blade still turned the ignition and the car started, but the remote was dead and she was rattled about whether it would stay that way.
When I got there I pulled the fob apart on my kit bag right next to the car. The CR2032 had shifted and one of the battery contacts had taken a slight bend from the impact. I reseated the battery, straightened the contact, and tested the buttons. Still nothing. The crack had gotten into the circuit board housing itself. She needed a replacement fob, not a repair.
I had the correct replacement shell and a blank fob with me. I decoded her door lock, cut a fresh blade to match, and programmed the new fob through the OBD port. The whole thing took about 35 minutes on site. All four buttons came back, the remote range was solid, and the car started clean.
She had already called the Jaguar dealer before she called me. They told her she would need to leave the car, they would order the part, and she should plan on two to three days. She was not close to a dealer and could not leave the car out there that long. A mobile call was the only realistic option, and it saved her a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted.
