I got a call from a guy in North Park on a Tuesday afternoon. He was parked in his driveway on a side street off 30th, and his 2011 LR4 had decided it was done cooperating. The fob wasn't waking the door handles, the dash was giving him a key-not-detected warning, and he'd already swapped the CR2032 the night before. He was convinced he needed a whole new fob.

I cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh battery from my own stock, and tested signal range. The handles woke up immediately. Walked all five buttons, checked the hidden blade, confirmed the immobilizer was reading the fob correctly through the diagnostic port.
That was it. He didn't need a new fob. He didn't need a dealer visit. He definitely didn't need to wait two or three weeks for a factory-ordered key.
He asked what the dealer would have charged to figure that out. I told him the process alone, with the wait and the appointment, would have cost him days he wasn't getting back. What he paid me was a fraction of that, and the whole thing was done before he finished his coffee.
