2015 Land Rover LR4 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from someone parked near Garden Road in Poway. She had her 2015 LR4 and one fob that was behaving strangely -- the doors were not unlocking when she walked up, and the push-button start was throwing a key-not-detected warning about half the time. She had already replaced the CR2032 herself, or thought she had.
I pulled up and she handed me the fob. Fresh battery, but it was sitting just slightly off-center in the tray and one of the contacts had a small upward bow to it, probably from prying the case open with a flathead instead of a proper tool. The battery was not making solid contact.
I reset the contact, seated a new CR2032 correctly, and tested every function: passive entry on both front handles, the lock and unlock buttons, the liftgate release, and the start sequence. Everything came back clean. No programming needed. That was the whole job.
She mentioned she had called the dealer before reaching me. They told her to bring it in, said they would need to diagnose it and possibly order a replacement fob, and that she should plan on a few days. She saved a good chunk and did not have to leave Poway.
Not every LR4 call is that simple. Sometimes the fob genuinely needs replacement and programming, and on an all-keys-lost job the procedure is more involved. But this one just needed the right hands on it for twenty minutes.
