I got a call from a guy parked in his driveway off Bonita Road. His 2020 Range Rover Evoque had been sitting for two days. One fob stopped being recognized, and he had been nursing the backup along. Then the backup started acting up too. He figured it was both batteries dying at the same time, swapped them both, and the car still threw a key-not-detected warning.

I opened it up and the battery contact had a slight lean to it, enough that a brand-new CR2032 was barely making connection. That one just needed the contact straightened and a proper seat. Tested it at the door handle. Touch unlock, lock button, start button -- all of it came back.
The second fob was a different story. The electronics were not communicating. We needed a replacement fob programmed to the vehicle.
I pulled my laptop and interface, connected through the OBD port, and registered the new fob while erasing the dead one so it could not be used to start the car. Cut the emergency blade to match his locks. Walked him through every function before I packed up.
He had a working primary and a working spare in under an hour. He mentioned the dealer had already told him they would need the car for several days to source parts. He did not tow anything anywhere.
