2004 Lincoln LS Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Bayside, Imperial Beach called me on a Tuesday morning. He had just landed from a business trip, walked to the long-term lot, and his 2004 Lincoln LS wouldn't respond to anything.
Doors locked, fob dead, and he told me the emergency key blade was sitting inside the center console because he'd taken it off his keyring months ago to keep the fob lighter. He'd looked up the Lincoln dealer. Earliest available was Thursday.
I was in the lot in about 40 minutes.
Getting the door open without the blade takes a slim jim approach on the LS door frame. Once I was in, I swapped the CR2032 and tested the remote. Nothing. That told me the battery alone wasn't the whole story. I connected my programmer to the OBD port and pulled the key status. The remote head key had dropped out of the learned key memory, probably from a low-voltage event during a long discharge. The transponder was still valid, which is why the car had been starting fine on his last trip, but the remote was gone from the system.
Re-enrolled the key, confirmed all three buttons were responding, checked the lock, unlock, and trunk release from ten feet out. He was in the car and driving before I even left the lot.
He mentioned the dealer quoted him a tow plus a two-day wait. I don't bring up pricing comparisons much, but he did the math out loud on his own and seemed pretty satisfied.
